Wiley and NU libraries announce publishing deal

University of Nebraska authors whose articles are accepted for publication in Wiley hybrid journals between Feb. 1 and Dec. 31, 2022, may be able to have their work published in Open Access (OA) at no cost to themselves.

Associated costs, known as Article Processing Charges (APCs), for these publications will be covered by the libraries.

Hybrid journals are journals that publish both Open Access and non-Open Access articles. Under the terms of the agreement between Wiley and the Big Ten Academic Alliance, a capped number of articles can be published Open Access in hybrid journals at no charge. Once this threshold has been reached, authors will be offered a 10% discount on the APC. Charges for publication in Wiley’s fully Open Access (Gold OA) journals are not covered.

Corresponding authors affiliated with UNMC, University of Nebraska-Lincoln, University of Nebraska at Omaha and University of Nebraska at Kearney are eligible for the APC credit. Authors should specify their institutional affiliation when submitting their articles to ensure that the publisher’s editorial management system identifies them correctly for application of the credit.

After the article has been accepted for publication, authors will be presented with the choice of publishing Open Access or not. It is not possible to choose the Open Access option after the article has been published.
