Closed captioning is now available for all Nebraska Medicine and UNMC Zoom meetings.
Here is a message and a tutorial from Ada Wilson, JD, vice president-chief inclusion and diversity officer for Nebraska Medicine, about the improvement.
Said Sheritta Strong, MD, assistant vice chancellor of inclusion at UNMC, "Millions of Americans have a disability, and many of these individuals do not feel comfortable with sharing their need for accommodations for a variety of reasons. Let’s take this into account as we continue to strive to make UNMC and Nebraska Medicine a more inclusive place to train and work. Adding closed captioning is one step further on this journey."
While this functionality does not replace ADA requirements, it’s an important step forward for creating a more accessible virtual experience, Wilson said.
Better accessibility for colleagues is among several new improvements.
The recent updates also include attendee reports. Any Zoom meeting organizer can now run a report and get a list of everyone who joined their meeting.
Colleagues who record Zoom meetings will see another improvement – the choice to save the recording to a Zoom cloud rather than on their computer. Recordings are saved on Zoom’s cloud for a period of 60 days. After 60 days, the recordings are deleted. To keep a recording, save them to OneDrive, SharePoint, Microsoft Streams, Microsoft Teams, Echo360 or another location. Recordings containing confidential information, including information covered by HIPAA, can be moved only to SharePoint, Teams, Streams and OneDrive.
The Zoom closed captioning does not currently apply to tele-health appointments scheduled through Epic.
