New chief information, innovation officer is named

Scott Raymond will join the med center as vice president-chief information and innovation officer on Aug. 1. Brian Lancaster previously held this role for seven years; he recently accepted a position in Kansas City, closer to family.

Raymond will provide leadership for all information technology functions at UNMC and Nebraska Medicine.

"There were more than 80 applicants interested in the role, but with the help of an internal search committee and interview panels, we quickly determined Scott was the right person for this important position. Not only does he have extensive experience in health care IT, including with Epic, but he’s a great fit with our culture and values."  

Raymond is a registered nurse, who started his career as a staff nurse on a pediatric intensive care unit at Miller Children’s and Women’s Hospital, part of the MemorialCare health system in California. During his 18-year career at MemorialCare, he advanced to a variety of leadership roles in operations, informatics and information technology, including executive director of strategic innovation and information technology. He also served as associate chief information officer/chief transformation officer at Centura Health in Colorado, where he was responsible for enterprise Epic applications, Epic Community Connect strategy and deployment, program management office, client services, strategic planning, infrastructure, technical operations and a staff of more than 300. Most recently, Raymond was chief information officer-global healthcare & life sciences for NetApp, a Fortune 500 Global technology company located in Sunnyvale, California.  

As vice president-chief information and innovation officer, Raymond will be part of the senior leadership team and will lead the development, implementation and maintenance of the organization’s overall technology strategy. He will provide administrative and financial leadership, oversight and management for all information systems technology, business analytics, clinical informatics and applications.

In his free time, Raymond is a competitive cyclist and a seven-time national champion for USA Cycling. He is also involved in Boy Scouts of America and the proud parent of two Eagle Scouts.  

Nicole Becker to oversee IT operations for UNMC

Nicole Becker

Nicole Becker’s role will expand in IT to include oversight of all operations related to UNMC.  

Becker has 30 years of IT management experience covering a wide range of responsibilities; she currently leads the DevOps, Projects and Initiatives and IT Business Office. Becker has led a number of UNMC initiatives, including the creation of the academic management committees.

In her new role, she will work more closely with UNMC deans, vice chancellors and key stakeholders to define and create strategies on how to best support UNMC. UNMC leaders will define a new job title, description and role responsibilities in the coming weeks. 

John Papproth to serve as interim director, data warehousing 

Tim Ultican, director of data warehousing, will be leaving the organization on Monday, July 18, to pursue a new opportunity. John Papproth will serve as an interim director until a permanent data warehousing leader is named. Papproth has been with the organization since 2017 and has led a number of critical data-driven projects. He has also provided data science and data governance support to the data warehouse team and is currently leading an effort to transition the data warehouse offerings to the cloud.
