UNMC for the record, Sept. 30, 2022

Green Space Series kickoff is today

UNMC students and alumni are invited to the 2022 Green Space Series kickoff Event on Friday, Sept. 30, from 4 to 6 p.m. on the Ruth and Bill Scott Student Plaza green space. The event, sponsored by the UNMC Alumni Association and Student Senate, will feature Coneflower ice cream, music and yard games.

The Green Space Series is an initiative started in fall 2021 by the UNMC Student Senate to build community and support wellness among students in an outdoor setting. At the Sept. 30 event, alumni are invited to socialize and share encouragement with students in this casual setting.

Attendees can drop by the event anytime between 4 to 6 p.m. For planning purposes, alumni who plan to stop by are requested to RSVP online here.

Lot 17 maintenance work to begin Oct. 5

Beginning next week, Facilities Management and Planning will kick off a multi-phase maintenance project that will impact Parking Lots 17 and 50 on the west end of the Omaha campus.

Phase one, which will begin Oct. 5 and run through Oct. 14, involves repairing drive lanes in Lot 17 (the surface lot directly south of Durham Research Center) and resurfacing the southeast parking area. During this time, motorists will access Lots 17 and 50 (lower level) from 45th Street. Access to the southeast area of Lot 17 and the Waste Accumulation Building will be from 46th and Jones streets.

During phase two of the project – currently scheduled for Oct. 17-25 – access to all parking areas will be closed from Jones Street. Instead, motorists should use 45th Street to access parking.

The third and final phase – scheduled for late October and early November – will close the southeast area of Lot 17 for mill and overlay work.

Parking Services will notify motorists directly impacted by the project.

All schedules are weather dependent.

Street closure on Dewey Avenue

Starting Monday, Oct. 3, construction crews will close a section of Dewey Avenue between the Nebraska Medical Center Emergency Department entrance and the Fred & Pamela Buffett Cancer Center delivery dock.

The closure is required for soil stabilization work to support building demolition for the former home of the Munroe-Meyer Institute.

During the closure all emergency department traffic will need to approach from 44th and Farnam streets. That is currently the route the majority of patients use to access the emergency entrance. Signage will be in place to direct traffic.

The work is scheduled for roughly four weeks. Dewey Avenue is expected to be reopened on Oct. 30.
