Record-breaking blanket drive completed

With the start of the new year, Fostering the Future’s record-breaking 2022 Blanket Drive has come to a close. As a student-led, interprofessional Office of Community Engagement Legacy Project, UNMC’s Fostering the Future aims to provide high quality resources and education to meet the needs of at-risk youth phasing out of the foster care system.

Utilizing strong support from UNMC students, faculty, staff and their families, the blanket drive made a record 200 blankets. The blankets were delivered and distributed to philanthropic organizations with similar mission statements, providing services and resources to at-risk youth in the Omaha community.

Among the organizations receiving the blankets were Omaha’s Project Everlast, Partnership 4 Kids, Project Harmony and the Open Door Mission. The next blanket drive will be toward the end of 2023.
