Dr. Fingeret to receive Association for Surgical Education award

In recognition of her service to the field of surgical education, Abbey Fingeret, MD, associate professor in the department of surgery in the division of surgical oncology in the UNMC College of Medicine, is being given the Distinguished Mid-Career Educator Award from the Association for Surgical Education (ASE). 

Dr. Fingeret will receive the award during the ASE Awards Banquet being held April 14 in San Diego. Recipients of the award are recognized for exemplary performance in demonstrated teaching excellence at the national and international level, as well as consistent educational scholarship and significant contributions to surgical education that are recognized to have national and/or international impact.   

Said Dr. Fingeret: “I am thrilled to represent UNMC with my acceptance of the ASE Distinguished Mid-Career Educator award.”

Ramadan takes place through April 21

Ramadan is considered the holiest month for Muslims and takes place during the ninth month of the Islamic calendar. It began March 22 and will end the evening of April 21. During this time, those who observe this sacred period will spend time in prayer and reflection and will fast from sunrise to sunset.

Prayer spaces are available for colleagues and students to use during these times and beyond.

  • Interfaith Prayer Space – University Tower, Room 1469
  • The Chihuly Sanctuary – Fred & Pamela Buffett Cancer Center, level four; adjacent to the Outpatient Clinic

Additionally, there are food options available for colleagues and students remaining on campus after sunset.

  • Clarkson Cafe is open 24/7.
  • C-store is open 24/7 with hot food options until 9 p.m.; badge access is required after operating hours.
  • Starbucks is open Monday through Friday until 8 p.m. with hot food options.

Wigton Center traffic notice

The Wigton Center’s third floor north and south doors will be closed to traffic from Friday, March 24, at 6 a.m. until Sunday, March 26, at 1 p.m. for window replacement work. The third-floor hallway into University Tower unit one and the hallway into Wittson Hall will be usable during this time.
