Support your favorite cause during UNMC Giving Day

UNMC’s first-ever Giving Day — For the Greater Good will run from 10 a.m. Thursday, March 30, through 5 p.m. Friday, March 31, and supporters are invited to make a gift in support of the next generation of health care providers and researchers.

More than $67,000 in challenge funds has been committed to causes at UNMC and Nebraska Medicine, and 45 challenges have matching funds ready to be unlocked when they meet donor goals. Supporters can choose among numerous worthy causes, including:

  • iEXCEL: The iEXCEL program improves human performance and effectiveness in health care through simulation, interprofessional collaboration and experiential learning technologies. Ultimately, patients benefit because learners hone their skills, both individually and as teams, before treating actual patients.
  • UNMC Sharing Clinics: These student-run clinics provide free health care to underprivileged populations in the greater Omaha area. The clinics are staffed by volunteer student providers from each academic discipline, including medicine, physician assistant, nursing, pharmacy, physical therapy, medical nutrition and medical lab sciences. Faculty providers facilitate student learning and ensure a high standard of care for clinic patients.
  • Deconstruct Cancer: An Omaha resident has set up a fund to support the early detection and treatment of pancreas cancer in honor of his mother, who is being treated for pancreas cancer at the Fred & Pamela Buffett Cancer Center. Funds raised will support the Pancreatic Cancer Center of Excellence, which seeks to transform the early detection, diagnosis, prevention and treatment of pancreas cancer.

Gifts can be made on the giving day website. The giving day website also has a list of donation matches and challenges and a page with all the giving options. Anyone who makes a gift totaling $65 or more will receive a UNMC fleece blanket.

To honor UNMC’s founding in 1869, the giving day will last for 1,869 minutes (about 31 hours). The goal is to receive 1,000 gifts from UNMC alumni, friends and grateful patients to support scholarships, UNMC’s colleges, student organizations and clinical partners and institutions, including Nebraska Medicine.

Additional information about UNMC Giving Day, including options for giving and tracking the event’s progress, can be found online. UNMC Giving Day is organized by the University of Nebraska Foundation.
