Beginning July 1, the med center’s Emerging Professionals Program will welcome new leadership for the 2023-2024 fiscal year.

  • Kelsey Scroggin, special events and community relations associate in the UNMC Department of Strategic Communications, will move from the role of vice president to president. Scroggin has served on the board for four years.
  • Augusta Tanner, organizational excellence lead at Nebraska Medicine, will move from secretary/treasurer to vice president. Tanner is in her second year as a leader on the board.
  • Kristen Hendershot, organizational excellence lead at Nebraska Medicine, will serve as secretary/treasurer. This will be Hendershot’s first year on the board.
  • Jerry Stone, health care facilities manager at Nebraska Medicine, will move from the role of president to advisor. Stone has been part of the group for four years.

As EPP’s new president, Scroggin said she looks forward to the coming year. “We have a lot of new colleagues joining our board, and their enthusiasm and engagement in just the few interactions we’ve had is contagious. I can’t wait to hear their new ideas for this fiscal year and see how we can continue to grow the program for our members.”

EPP enables early and experienced professionals to grow through educational activities, engage in the community and contribute to the mission of the organization. Since its launch in 2017, the group has hosted numerous professional development events, given back more than 550 hours to the community and grown to nearly 650 members.

The program is open to all colleagues and students at UNMC and Nebraska Medicine. For more information on how to get involved, visit the EPP website.

Here are some of the upcoming EPP events and activities:

  • June 27, noon, Zoom, quarterly membership forum
The featured discussion for this quarter’s meeting will revolve around crucial conversations. Kevin Mitchell, senior organizational development partner at Nebraska Medicine, will join the event to discuss this topic. The leadership team also will provide updates on what’s been accomplished this fiscal year.
  • July 21, 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., Ruth & Bill Scott Student Plaza, summer picnic
Stop by the student plaza for food, yard games, networking and information on additional employee resource groups. EPP will provide one taco to each of the first 50 attendees.
  • Aug. 8 & 9, Mid-America Center
Med center colleagues are invited to join EPP members to volunteer with the United Way of the Midlands to prep and assemble Shine Bright hygiene kits for local school children. The kits contain items including body wash, shampoo, conditioner, toothpaste, deodorant and feminine hygiene products. They will be distributed to students in kindergarten, sixth grade and ninth grade who need them.

The EPP leadership team will be volunteering on the following dates:
