Upoma Guha, BDS, MS, appointed Director of Clinics at the College of Dentistry

Upoma Guha, BDS, MS, an Associate Professor in the Department of Adult Restorative Dentistry, has been appointed the Director of Clinics at the UNMC College of Dentistry. Dr. Guha assumed her new leadership role on July 1, 2023.

As the Director of Clinics, Dr. Guha will oversee all clinical operations at the College of Dentistry, ensuring the highest standards of patient care are maintained. Her leadership and vision will play a significant role in the continued success and growth of the clinics.

Dr. Guha will work closely with the Group Practice Leads and facilitate communication concerning operational and educational issues with the Assistant Dean of Clinic Operations, Assistant Dean for Clinical Education and Quality Assurance, and the Department Chairs. Additionally, she will facilitate faculty calibration for group practice clinics and assess student proficiency in clinical skills.

“Dr. Guha’s dedication to patient well-being and deep understanding of best dental practices make her the perfect fit for this position,” said Renato Roperto, DDS, MSc, PhD, Chair of the Department of Adult Restorative Dentistry.

“Under her guidance, our clinics will continue to excel in delivering compassionate and high-quality dental services to our community,” he said.

Dr. Guha brings more than 18 years of experience in dentistry education, practice, research and teaching to her new role. Prior to joining UNMC in October 2022, she held Clinical Assistant Professor positions at the University at Buffalo from 2015-2018 and at the University of Florida from 2018-2022.

“I’m truly honored and humbled by this appointment,” said Dr. Guha. “I’m excited to take on this important responsibility and work with our exceptional team of faculty, staff and students to continue to provide superior oral health care to the people of Nebraska.”

“Together, we will strive to create an environment where every patient feels valued and every student receives the best possible education in clinical dentistry,” she said.

Dr. Guha received her BDS from the University of Dhaka-Bangladesh in 2009 and her MS and certificate in operative dentistry from the University of North Carolina-Chapel Hill in 2015. She was an American Dental Education Association (ADEA) Emerging Leaders Fellow in 2020 and is the 2024 Executive Councilor of the Academy of Operative Dentistry (AOD).

Dr. Guha is an avid dental practitioner and is actively involved in the college’s faculty practice,
University Dental Associates (UDA). She is passionate about providing better health care
access and awareness to the people of Nebraska.
