The UNMC College of Medicine received grant and funding awards representing more than $1.1 million in new funding in July.

Micah Schott, PhD, biochemistry/molecular biology, received a grant of $381,931 from DHHS/NIH/NIGMS for a study on mechanisms of endosomal trafficking in lipid droplet catabolism.

Siwei Zhao, PhD, surgery-transplant, received a grant of $377,670 from DHHS/NIH/NIBIB for a study of a novel electric current-based treatment system for chronic wound biofilm infections.

Ted Mikuls, MD, internal medicine-rheumatology, received grants totaling $72,836 from the Nebraska Educational Biomedical Research Association for work supporting Horizon 2023-24.

Bryant England, MD, internal medicine-rheumatology, received a grant of $54,277 from the Nebraska Educational Biomedical Research Association for work supporting BI 2023-24.

Vikas Kumar, PhD, genetics, cell biology and anatomy, received a grant of $11,505 from the University of Iowa for a study on SUMO2-p66shc axis in vascular endothelial dysfunction and atherosclerosis.

Kari Neemann, MD, pediatrics-infectious diseases, received grants from the Arkansas Children’s Hospital Research Institute of $8,350 for a short course vs. standard course antifungal therapy for uncomplicated candidemia in children and adolescents: A multicenter randomized controlled trial; and of $4,000 for non-invasive diagnosis of pediatric pulmonary invasive mold infections.

Todd Wyatt, PhD, internal medicine-pulmonary, received a grant of $6,940 from the University of Colorado-Anschutz Medical Campus for the Colorado Pulmonary Alcohol Research Collaborative.
