Book club will discuss making lasting changes in eating, exercise

Update on Sept. 27: The book club has been filled. Thank you for your interest.

The Olson Center for Women’s Health will hold a book club as part of its Wellness Through Doing series, discussing how to make lasting changes in eating and exercise habits.

The virtual book club will be hosted by Jess King, education and research services librarian at the McGoogan Health Sciences Library, and Peter Pellerito, fitness specialist at the UNMC Center for Healthy Living.

The book is titled, “The Joy Choice: How to Finally Achieve Lasting Changes in Eating and Exercise,” by Michelle Segar, PhD, a National Institutes of Health-funded researcher into sustainable behavior change at the University of Michigan and a lifestyle coach.

For nearly three decades, she has pioneered methods to create sustainable healthy behavior changes that are being used to boost patient health, employee well-being and gym membership retention. She is frequently interviewed in major media outlets including the New York Times, NPR, Prevention, Real Simple and the Wall Street Journal.

The book club will meet on Thursdays, beginning Oct. 26 and then on Nov. 2, Nov. 9 and Nov. 16. Meetings will be from noon-12:30 p.m. via Zoom for a total of four meetings. Anyone is welcome to join, and participants are expected to attend every meeting. There is no cost to participate aside from the cost of the book.

To register or for more information, call the Olson Women’s Health Resource Center at 402-559-6345. Membership is limited and offered on a first-come, first-served basis. Interested participants must register by Oct. 1.
