McGoogan Library supports Open Access publishing

The McGoogan Health Sciences Library supports Open Access publishing at UNMC through participation in agreements with a number of scholarly publishers, enabling UNMC authors to publish their articles as open access in selected journals at no cost to themselves or at a discounted fee.

Two new agreements recently have been signed:

  • University of Nebraska authors whose articles are accepted for publication in Elsevier journals on or after Sept. 18, 2023, may be eligible for a 10% discount on the article processing charge for publishing their work Open Access. The discount applies to articles published by University of Nebraska corresponding authors in the majority of Elsevier’s “hybrid” journals.
  • Beginning Jan. 1, University of Nebraska authors with articles accepted into select journals from the Biochemical Society through Portland Press will have their article processing charge waived.

Current agreements include those with Wiley and Hindawi, PLOS Medicine and PLOS Biology. For more information on these and the new agreements, see the library’s open access guide.

The McGoogan Health Sciences Library subscribes to journals from publishers who provide discounts that are available to UNMC through membership in the University of Nebraska Consortium of Libraries. McGoogan Library does not pay for article processing charges or any other fees charged to authors.

For questions regarding these agreements, contact Heather Brown, scholarly communications librarian.
