CultureFest is UNMC’s annual celebration that is filled with interactive booths, food and entertainment. This year’s theme of “Rhythm of the Islands” will celebrate the islands of Australia, Hawaii and Jamaica.

Several food and beverage stations will offer free samples, while supplies last, of products created or native to each of the Islands, including Jerk chicken wings, Australian snag sausage, Moko Loko and Hawaiian Sun tropical punch.

Event programming will be as follows:

  • 11:40 a.m. – A special presentation and demonstration from Chris Brookins, No Limit Hair Salon, and Jayida Moore, The Braid Fix, on the history of hair braiding.
  • Noon – A spoken word piece presented by St. Patrick Reid, PhD, associate professor in the UNMC Department of Pathology, Microbiology and Immunology.
  • 12:20 p.m. – Attendees can participate in a hula hoop contest.
  • 12:50 p.m. – A ukulele musical presentation.
  • 1:15 p.m. – A cultural dance from the Filipino-American Organization of Metropolitan Omaha will close the event.
