Dr. Greg Bennett named chair of adult restorative dentistry

Greg Bennett, DMD

UNMC College of Dentistry Dean Gerry Kugel, DMD, PhD, has announced the appointment of Greg Bennett, DMD, as chair of the college’s Department of Adult Restorative Dentistry.

Dr. Bennett’s appointment will be effective June 1.

Dr. Bennett has served as interim chair since May 2024, demonstrating thoughtful leadership, a strong commitment to faculty and student development and a clear vision for advancing clinical education and innovation, Dr. Kugel said.

An associate professor, Dr. Bennett joined the college in 2016 as a part-time clinical instructor while maintaining a private practice in Lincoln.

His teaching career followed a distinguished tenure as a dental corps officer in the U.S. Navy, where he also completed a general practice residency at Naval Hospital Camp Pendleton.

In 2019, Dr. Bennett transitioned to a full-time faculty role to lead the college’s digital dentistry initiative, spearheading the integration of cutting-edge technologies — including 3D printing — into both the curriculum and clinical care.

A graduate of the Oregon Health and Science University School of Dentistry, he has become a recognized leader in dental innovation, particularly in the use of 3D printing technologies in restorative dentistry.

Dr. Bennett is a PhD candidate in UNMC’s Clinical and Translational Research Mentored Scholars Program, where his research focuses on the development of antimicrobial formulations for 3D printed dentures.

He also has played a vital role in community outreach, helping to organize the college’s VETSmile program, which has provided comprehensive dental care to more than 300 veterans in need.

“Please join us in congratulating Dr. Bennett on this well-deserved appointment,” Dr. Kugel said. “We look forward to his continued leadership and many contributions to the department and the broader college community.”
