Exterior wall panels currently are being installed on UNMC’s CORE (Center of Research Excellence) Building at the southwest corner of Saddle Creek Road and Farnam Street.

“Cranes are onsite to assist with installation of roofing,” said Chris Ehlers, project manager for UNMC Facilities, Management and Planning.

Exterior glass work will begin in a few weeks, followed by installation of the roof. The project will be fully enclosed in October, he said.

Work on the six-story office and lab building is scheduled for completion in late summer 2026. Once completed, the facility will support wet and dry lab-based research in critical areas (microbiology, physiology, pathology, genetics, life sciences, light chemistry), as well as computer-based research.
