Tunnel app coming to iPhones

UNMC and Nebraska Medicine faculty and staff who have iPhones or other iOS devices currently enrolled into the med center’s BYOD environment may have noticed a message letting them know that an app called Tunnel needs to be installed on their device.

UNMC and Nebraska Medicine Information Technology is deploying the iOS Tunnel app to avoid a possible interruption in service when its vendor, Omnissa, makes a mandatory change to the way iOS devices access the organization’s internal resources.

The Tunnel app replaces the functionality that had been provided by a different phone application.

Users will be presented with a notice to install a new app, “Tunnel (new) – Workspace ONE,” from the App Store. This is an expected notice.

If users have seen this notice and mistakenly denied it, the notice will periodically pop up again asking to install it. Once the installation is accepted, the rest of the process should be seamless.

With questions or problems regarding the Tunnel app, contact the IT Service Desk at 402-559-7700 or on the ServiceNow website.
