Drivers should be aware that westbound traffic on Emile Street will be closed between 41st and 42nd Streets beginning Monday, Aug. 11.
The three-week interruption will allow MUD to connect utilities to the main utility line and to both Bennett Hall and the Academic and Research Services building. During this time:
- Southbound traffic on 42nd Street will remain closed at Emile Street until after Labor Day.
- Northbound traffic from Leavenworth Street to 42nd Street can continue to turn left at Emile Street and head west. Drivers also can continue to turn right at Emile Street and head east.
“We recognize the difficulty drivers have had traveling to and around the med center Omaha campus this summer and appreciate everyone’s patience and understanding as we work through these important projects,” said Chad Kruse, executive director of capital projects in Facilities Management and Planning. “We’re excited to see significant progress with the street improvements that have been made along Saddle Creek Road and within the EDGE District.”
Improvements include the following:
- A new intersection at 46th and Farnam streets.
- A new segment of 46th Street connecting Farnam Street to Jones Street / 48th Streets.
- A new intersection at Saddle Creek Road and Leavenworth Street.
- Repairs to Emile Street between 42nd Street and Saddle Creek Road.
The campus community also should note that:
- The 42nd Street entrance to Poynter Hall will close Sept. 1 until approximately Nov. 10. The 10-week closure will allow teams to reconstruct sidewalks leading to the front door of Poynter Hall.
- 42nd Street between Emile Street and Dewey Avenue will remain closed for construction until summer 2026.
See this map for more details on the construction occurring around the med center.
