Interim Chancellor H. Dele Davies, MD

Op-ed by Dr. Davies

UNMC Interim Chancellor H. Dele Davies authored an editorial in the Omaha World-Herald on Thursday, Aug. 7, titled “I lead UNMC. Here’s how our clinicians are educating the next generation of medical pros.”

Dr. Davies discussed the value of preceptors, whose instruction “comes not in classrooms or laboratories, but through hands-on learning during real-life clinical rotations in communities across our state.”

Mail handling procedure changing

A significant change in U.S. Postal Service mail handling procedures will impact flat mail, such as manila envelopes.

With the implementation of new automation standards, handwritten addressing on flats is no longer accepted. The USPS system cannot process these items, meaning any handwritten flats will be rejected.

Recently, a few handwritten flats were submitted. To avoid delay, operations manually intervened and applied postage; however, this was an exception. Going forward, any handwritten flats will be returned to the sender.

To ensure compliance and avoid disruptions, use printed, machine-readable addressing on all flat mail.

Giving attention to this change will help ensure timely, efficient mail service. For assistance with this process or with questions, email UNMC mail services.
