Construction projects will impact access to Poynter Hall’s front door, as well as impact a portion of Emile Street.
Beginning Monday, Sept. 8, access to Poynter Hall’s east, 42nd Street-facing entrance will close through late November and require individuals to access Poynter Hall through its south door.
The closure signals the start of the 42nd Street beautification and safety project, which is expected to run through September 2026. Access to Poynter Hall – and to Wittson Hall in late December – will be adjusted as the project evolves. Watch UNMC Today and Nebraska Medicine NOW for updates.
Beginning Sept. 15, a portion of Emile Street south of the Sorrell Center will be closed through Sept. 26 for excavation and repair of a condensate line.
During this time, the westbound lane of Emile Street will be closed between 41st and 42nd Streets, as will part of the sidewalk directly south of the Sorrell Center. The campus can expect some noise and dust from the construction site, but utilities will not be impacted. The Sorrell Center loading dock also will remain accessible during the project. Prairie Mechanical and Gunderson Grading will work with UNMC utilities staff to perform the work.
See these attached maps here and here for more information.
Also, from Friday, Sept. 12 through Sunday, Sept. 14, Gunderson Grading will be working in conjunction with UNMC Utilities staff to excavate two chilled water valves in the area of 45th Street and Dewey Avenue (the roundabout next to the Fred & Pamela Buffett Cancer Center).
During this time:
- The roundabout will remain open, but lane width will be slightly reduced.
- There will be no effect on any building utilities.
