On Nov. 18, the UNMC College Nursing will hold a workshop exploring physical safety and mental health in health care. The workshop, “Cultivating Safe and Supportive Environments: Physical Safety and Mental Health in Healthcare,” is designed for health care professionals and includes no-cost continuing education credits.
It will be held from 8:30 a.m.-3 p.m. at the UNMC Truhlsen Campus Events Center on the Omaha campus and online via Zoom.
The event will open with speaker Cynthia Clark, PhD, discussing “Creating Cultures of Civility, Community & Connection in Healthcare.” Dr. Clark is a tenured professor emeritus at Boise State University, founder of Civility Matters, a registered nurse and an award-winning scholar and author. She will explore the fundamentals of creating a safe and supportive workplace environment.
After lunch, the workshop will feature a panel of experienced public safety experts discussing urban and rural public safety issues and solutions. The panelists are:
- Chief Jeremy Kinsey of the Blair Police Department.
- Lieutenant Jeremy Thorson of the Nebraska State Patrol.
- Bill Smith, public safety coordinator for UNMC and the University of Nebraska at Omaha.
This working event will not only explore concepts but also develop plans with tangible takeaways for all participants.
