Ashley Hein, MD, is a new faculty member at UNMC.
- Name: Ashley Hein, MD
- Title and department at UNMC: Assistant professor, UNMC Department of Pathology, Microbiology and Immunology
- Hometown: Omaha
Research/professional interests:
Gastrointestinal and liver pathology
How I fell in love with pathology:
What drew me to pathology is that with the use of a microscope we can see the structure and organization that is present within all living things. We can actually see diseases when that structure is disrupted, which I think is incredible.
Education:
- Medical degree, UNMC, 2020
- Residency in anatomic and clinical pathology, UNMC, 2024
- Fellowship in gastrointestinal and liver pathology, Weill Cornell Medical Center, New York City
Memberships:
- United States and Canadian Academy of Pathology
- College of American Pathologists
Three things people may not know about me:
- My favorite season is fall, and I have season tickets to Vala’s Pumpkin Patch.
- I love all animals. I spent the last year in New York City, where there were very few animals. Now that I’m back in Omaha, I’m loving seeing all the random squirrels, opossums, hawks, raccoons, frogs, turtles, etc., that I didn’t get to see there.
- I enjoy kayaking.
