Food drive brings in more than 300 meals

A food drive hosted by the Munroe-Meyer Institute Quality Council last month collected 540 pounds of food.

The collected food was donated to the Food Bank for the Heartland in Omaha. It was enough to provide more than 300 meals for families in need during the holidays and beyond.

“Having the opportunity to lead this event was really inspiring as the institute came together to help feed our community in a time of need,” said Savannah Bowling, volunteer coordinator at MMI. “We hope to continue finding ways to assist and support people of our state, especially those in need.”

Through organizing the food drive, Bowling said she learned that more than 280,000 people face hunger in the state, with more than 90,000 of those being children.

“The Munroe-Meyer Institute community is all about service and we showed this through our effort for the food drive,” said Laura Fritz, assistant project director in the MMI Department of Education and Child Development.
