The public is invited to tour five gardens spread across southwest and west Omaha during the Munroe-Meyer Guild’s 57th annual Garden Walk later this spring.

The event, slated for June 14, supports innovative programming and research at UNMC’s Munroe-Meyer Institute. Tickets are on sale now.

“Five extraordinary private gardens are opening their gates for one special day,” said Luann Rabe, Munroe-Meyer Guild member. “Each space reflects the heart of its gardener — unique, spectacular and full of inspiration. Your steps through these hidden gems will provide you with fresh, new ideas and grow your passion for your garden.”

Proceeds from the Garden Walk have been used to support projects such as innovative virtual reality therapy for children with cerebral palsy; specialized therapy designed to bolster social skills for children on the autism spectrum; job training programs for young adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities; and a partnership with a national organization that provides low-cost mobility devices to toddlers facing mobility challenges.

This year’s gardens are in:

  • Candlewood
  • Heavenly Acres
  • Linden Estates
  • Walnut Ridge
  • West Dodge Station

About 20 vendors and local artists will be set up at a location near the Candlewood garden.

“We’re featuring a blend of new and returning vendors and artists, each providing art that will bring vibrant color and creativity to your special space,” Rabe said.

The family-friendly event will be held rain or shine from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. on June 14. In past years, the Garden Walk has drawn more than 1,000 spectators to the local gardens.

Tickets can be purchased online at this link or in person at Hy-Vee stores, Benson Plant Rescue, Canoyer Garden Center, Indian Creek Nursery, Lanoha Nurseries, Moore’s Nursery, Mulhall’s Nursery Inc. and Westlake Ace Hardware at 140th Street and West Center Road.

Tickets cost $25 in advance or $35 when purchased at the gardens on the day of the event. Children under 5 are free. Strollers are not allowed in the gardens.
