Registration now open for the inaugural Hypertension in Obstetrics: Prevention & Education – NEbraska (HOPE-NE) Symposium
The inaugural “Hypertension in Obstetrics: Prevention & Education – NEbraska (HOPE-NE) Symposium” will be held in-person on Wednesday, May 20, from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. at UNMC’s Truhlsen Campus Events Center.
This symposium will explore hypertensive disorders of pregnancy, emphasizing the role of biomarkers in detecting, stratifying risk for and managing preeclampsia toward the goal of improving maternal health outcomes.

The symposium is sponsored by the Olson Center for Women’s Health, UNMC College of Medicine Center for Continuing Education and UNMC College of Nursing Continuing interProfessional Development and Innovation.
Presentations will cover:
- The development and implementation of the STAMPP‑HTN postpartum hypertension program.
- Rural health perspectives in management of hypertensive disorders of pregnancy.
- Hands‑on nursing training for clinical care.
- Cardiac dysfunction during preeclampsia and the peripartum period.
- Basic science presentations that explore targeted placental drug delivery, biomarker origins and emerging therapeutics for preeclampsia.
UNMC Interim Chancellor H. Dele Davies, MD, will join the inaugural symposium.
The keynote presenter, Ananth Karumanchi, MD of Cedars-Sinai, Los Angeles, will give a virtual presentation on the “Mechanisms of Preeclampsia.”
In-person presentations by pregnancy and preeclampsia experts include: Sarosh Rana, MD, MPH; Rebecca Rimsza, MD; Neil Hamill, MD; Lynda Harris, PhD; Augustine Rajakumar, PhD; and Adrian Wiegman, PhD, all of the UNMC Dept of Obstetrics and Gynecology.
Additional presentations will be provided by Ann Anderson Berry, MD, PhD, from the UNMC Child Health Research Institute and UNMC Department of Pediatrics; Melissa Buman, EdD, and Karen Gesch, from Nebraska Medicine Women and Infant’s Services; Christina Dunbar Matos, DO, from the UNMC Division of Cardiovascular Medicine; and Sajid Shahil, MD, from the UNMC Department of Anesthesiology.
