The Fred & Pamela Buffett Cancer Center’s CCSG grant renewal team celebrated the filing of the grant renewal in September.

The submission was the culmination of more than 12 months of preparation and collaboration to produce a complex, 15-component application spanning more than 1,500 pages.

Faculty, staff, and leaders from UNMC, the University of Nebraska-Lincoln, the University of Nebraska at Omaha and the University of Nebraska at Kearney contributed critical data, information and expertise.

Joann Sweasy, PhD, director of the Fred & Pamela Buffett Cancer Center, thanked everyone who contributed to the project.

“We’re incredibly grateful for the dedication and collaboration that made this submission possible,” Dr. Sweasy said. “This is a meaningful reminder of what we can achieve together.”

Dr. Sweasy said the submission reflected far more than a grant application. “It represents the collective dedication of a community united in advancing cancer research, improving patient outcomes, and working toward a future free from cancer,” she said.

Amy Overby, associate director, cancer center administration, said: “An NCI designation demonstrates the strength of our cancer research and our commitment to translating discoveries into better ways to prevent, detect and treat cancer for people across Nebraska and the broader region.”

Dr. Sweasy said: “The Fred & Pamela Buffett Cancer Center administration extends its sincere gratitude to everyone who contributed to this effort and for their shared commitment to our mission: to understand, prevent and treat cancer in Nebraska through leading-edge research, exceptional patient care, premier education and training, and meaningful outreach to all Nebraskans.”
