Kristen Cook, PharmD, in new college leadership role

Kristen Cook, PharmD, has been appointed associate dean for academic affairs at the UNMC College of Pharmacy, the college announced.

“Dr. Cook brings an exceptional record of achievement as an educator, clinician and leader,” said Joseph D. Williams Endowed Dean Don Klepser, PhD. “Throughout her career at UNMC, she has demonstrated a deep commitment to student success, curricular innovation, faculty development and patient care.”

Dr. Cook fills the role formerly held by Chris Shaffer, PharmD, PhD. Earlier this year, Dr. Shaffer was appointed to the position of senior associate dean – the equivalent of the college’s chief operating officer.

Dr. Cook has earned numerous honors, including pharmacy’s Distinguished Teacher of the Year, the Interprofessional Academy of Educators Distinguished Educator award, UNMC Faculty Senate Outstanding Teacher award, UNMC Impact in Education Innovative Practices in Education award, and more. She’s served on numerous leadership committees within the college. Dr. Cook also has taken a leading role in several innovative practices undertaken by the college, including patient centered medical home pharmacy, student mentoring programs and diabetes management education.

Dr. Cook’s appointment was effective Sept. 1.
