The House Officers Association Alliance held its annual trick or treat event on Oct. 23, with UNMC’s house officers bringing their families to trick or treat at the Wigton Heritage Center.

“This is one of the Graduate Medical Education Office’s favorite events each year,” said Erin Snow, director of the office.

“It’s wonderful to see our residents, fellows, and their families in this setting. The kiddos are always adorable, and there are smiles all around — from the children and their families to the volunteers handing out treats. We truly appreciate HOAA’s partnership in helping plan and make this event a success each year.”

Children went through various treat stations at the atrium, set up and staffed by representatives from the UNMC College of Medicine’s departments, divisions and programs. About 25 children attended this year’s event.

“The participation of our medical departments, divisions and programs are the key to making this event a success year after year,” said Chandra Are, MBBS, associate dean of graduate medical education. “The collaboration with HOAA allows us to bring a bit of Halloween spirit to the families of our hard-working house officers.

“Events such as these are also a reflection of the importance placed on house officer wellbeing by the GME office,” he said.
