Beta testers needed for new Nebraska Medicine app

Members of the med center community can play a role in how patients access their health information.

The new app builds upon MyChart Mobile as its foundation.

Nebraska Medicine’s Digital Front Door team is working on a new app for iOS and Android mobile devices that would be the entry point for patients to manage their health account, prescriptions and find new providers. It builds upon MyChart Mobile as its foundation and would have more functionality with future updates.

Instead of having separate apps for pharmacy, MyChart, etc., this new app would provide one, comprehensive and seamless user experience for patients to interact with for all of Nebraska Medicine’s digital services on their mobile device.

“This app will ensure our patients are taking advantage of everything that we have to offer at Nebraska Medicine as it removes several barriers that currently exist,” said Jason Patera, M.D., Nebraska Medicine medical director of Ambulatory Informatics, and Immediate Care Clinics.

As part of the app development process, Nebraska Medicine is seeking people to volunteer to test out the beta version of the app. They’ll be asked to download the app, test it and report any unexpected errors it may have.

Current Nebraska Medicine patients who would like to get a sneak peek at this new app can participate by following these installation instructions.

Please note that this is the beta version of the app and its appearance and functionality is subject to change. When this test period is complete, there will be a notification on the main screen of the beta app informing users that the non-beta version is available for download.

“A key to our success of this app will be getting direct feedback on what we can do to improve the current experiences of technologies like OneChart Patient and Find a Doctor,” said Brian Lancaster, vice president of information technology. “For example, quickly showing common items you access, finding the wait times for an immediate care clinic, or using your voice to get parking information.”

Once input from beta testers is received, developers will continue to fine-tune the app for its public launch in the Google Play Store and Apple App Store.
