De-Stress Week starts off with yogurt, yoga and pups

It’s Monday, but don’t stress – there is free breakfast in the DRC II commons area this morning. A yogurt station with a variety of toppings will be set-up from 7:45 to 9 a.m., while supplies last.

At 11:30 a.m., join in celebrating National Cookie Day with free cookies, while supplies last, and dogs. Volunteers from Paws for Friendship, a local pet therapy organization, will be in attendance.

Then at noon, enjoy an hour-long relaxing yoga session that incorporates deep stretching and breathing. This free class is sponsored by the Center for Healthy Living. Pre-registration is not required. Those attending will need to check-in five minutes prior to class at the Center for Healthy Living front desk.

Below are the De-Stress Week events happening on the Omaha campus the rest of the week. Unless noted, all events are open to UNMC faculty, staff and students:

Tuesday, Dec. 5:

  • Student snack break, 10 a.m., McGoogan Health Sciences Library, sixth floor by the AskUs desk – The McGoogan Library staff will provide healthy snacks for students, so take a quick study break and grab a snack (while supplies last). In addition to the snack, the library will provide puzzles that allow students to take a break and interact.  
  • Walking tacos, noon, Sorrell Center, Alumni Commons, second floor – Stop by for a free lunch. A walking taco bar complete with meat, beans, chips and toppings will be available (while supplies last).
  • Yoga, 5 p.m., Center for Healthy Living, Room 1009 – End your workday with an hour-long relaxing yoga session incorporating deep stretching and breathing. This free class is sponsored by the Center for Healthy Living. Pre-registration is not required. Attendees will need to check in five minutes prior to class at the front desk.

Wednesday, Dec. 6:

  • Coffee bar, 7:45 a.m., Sorrell Center, Alumni Commons, second floor – Start the morning off with a cup of coffee (while supplies last).
  • Total body fitness, noon, Center for Healthy Living, Room 1004 – Join this fast-paced conditioning class offering short, high-intensity cardio intervals mixed with muscle-strengthening movements. All movements and intensities can be modified for each participant. This free class is sponsored by the Center for Healthy Living. Pre-registration is not required. Attendees will need to check in five minutes prior to class at the front desk.
  • Popcorn station, 2 p.m., DRC II, commons area – Pop on by this free popcorn station, complete with a variety of toppings (while supplies last).

Thursday, Dec. 7:

  • Donut stress, 7:45 a.m., Sorrell Center, Alumni Commons, second floor – The week is almost over, so start the morning off with a free donut (while supplies last).
  • Total body fitness, noon, Center for Healthy Living, Room 1004 – Join this fast-paced conditioning class offering short, high-intensity cardio intervals mixed with muscle-strengthening movements.   • Chancellor’s Holiday Tea, 2 p.m., Wigton Heritage Center, Dr. Leland and Dorothy Olson Atrium, fourth floor – Stop by for holiday cookies (while supplies last) courtesy of UNMC Chancellor Jeffrey P. Gold, MD.

Friday, Dec. 8:

  • Pediatric donation drive, 11:30 a.m., UNMC Ice Rink – Give back this holiday season by bringing a donation for the Nebraska Medicine pediatric patient unit. Individuals who provide a donation valued at $10 or more will receive a winter hat featuring UNMC’s mascot, Ellie (while supplies last). See a list of preferred donations. Cash donations also will be accepted.
  • Employee Skate Day, 11:30 a.m., UNMC Ice Rink – The rink is officially open Friday, Dec. 8. Strap on ice skates and celebrate the holidays. There will be a free hot chocolate bar (while supplies last).

De-Stress Week is sponsored by the UNMC Department of Strategic Communications and the Office of Student, Life, Diversity and Inclusion.
