Faculty invited to attend UNMC-UNL joint accreditation Q&A session

University of Nebraska System President Jeffrey P. Gold, MD

University of Nebraska Medical Center faculty are invited to attend a campus-specific Zoom question-and-answer session this Friday, May 23, on the topic of joint accreditation. The session will provide an opportunity for university leadership to explain the joint accreditation process, which is currently underway, and provide the opportunity for faculty to ask any questions they may have prior to the Higher Learning Commission’s accreditation site visit on June 2 and 3.

The session is a follow-up from the communication earlier this week from University of Nebraska System President Jeffrey P. Gold, MD, sharing that the University of Nebraska has submitted an application to pursue a single institutional accreditation for UNMC and the University of Nebraska-Lincoln through HLC, our accrediting body.

A unified accreditation allows the University of Nebraska to streamline reporting and administrative processes while maintaining the distinct strengths and identities of each campus. The more unified campus communities will raise our academic profile and mirror the characteristics of other highly prestigious universities, including the university’s Big Ten Academic Alliance peers.

This change, while not structural, will further strengthen faculty collaborations, increase state, national and international research opportunities and provide more educational pathways for undergraduate, graduate and professional students.

The UNMC Zoom session will be offered Friday, May 23, at 11:30 a.m. Those planning to attend are asked to pre-register at this link; attendees will receive the link to the meeting once registration is complete.

For any faculty members unable to attend, additional information and a frequently asked questions document are available at Nebraska.edu/accreditation.
