The Center for Healthy Living invites the campus to stay active this summer with fitness events and activities. These events are free and open to members of the UNMC and Nebraska Medicine community, which includes students and employees as well as members of the Center for Healthy Living.
TRY-athlon Challenge – July 7 to Aug. 3
This four-week fitness event challenges participants to complete the distances of a full or half ironman triathlon in an unconventional way: run or walk the miles, bike indoors or outdoors, and complete the swimming portion on a rowing machine.
Those interested should sign up by July 3 by emailing the Center for Healthy Living with name and intention of completing either a full or half ironman triathlon. A full ironman triathlon involves running 26.2 miles, biking 112 miles and rowing 2.4 miles. A half ironman triathlon involves running 13.1 miles, biking 56 miles and rowing 1.2 miles.
Those who complete the challenge will be entered into a prize raffle, which includes two $50 UNMC bookstore gift cards.
Field Club Trail Bike & Walk Event – July 8
Walk or bike with the campus on the Field Club Trail Tuesday, July 8, starting at 5 p.m. outside the Center for Healthy Living. Participants can go as far as they choose on either the ride or the walk.
Cyclists will ride from the Center for Healthy Living to Karen Park and back for an 11-mile round trip. Cyclists should bring their own bikes, helmets and water. Heartland B-Cycle stations are located around campus, including one outside the Center for Healthy Living. Bikes can be rented through the app with a Heartland B-Cycle membership and while supplies last.
Walkers will take the trail from the Center for Healthy Living to Vinton Street for a four-mile round trip. They should bring walking shoes, comfortable clothes and water.
This event is free. No registration is required, and participants do not need to be Center for Healthy Living members to participate. The Center for Healthy Living restrooms will be available for general use and for participants to change clothes.

Summer is a great time to enjoy a bit of midday fun on the Ruth & Bill Scott Student Plaza from noon to 2 p.m. Cornhole, ladderball, spikeball, Kan Jam and yard darts will be set up and available for anyone on campus to play.
