The Munroe-Meyer Institute’s respite care team hosted an event at Omaha’s Henry Doorly Zoo & Aquarium in June for individuals with disabilities and their families.
The annual event, which drew 18 families, offered free zoo admission, unlimited rides on the train, tram, carousel and Skyfari, and a buffet lunch.
Guests could wander the zoo as they pleased before gathering for lunch and an up-close visit with an eastern hognose snake named Peppa.
“Having events like our annual zoo picnic is such a great opportunity for families to get out of the routine of caregiving,” said Georgia Ryba, respite care associate. “They can connect with other caregivers in their community and enjoy a fun day out as family in a supportive, judgment-free environment.”
