Dr. Klepser to present his vision to serve as pharmacy dean

Don Klepser, PhD

Don Klepser, PhD, interim dean of the UNMC College of Pharmacy, will give a presentation to the UNMC community on Wednesday, Nov. 5, offering his vision to serve as the permanent dean of the college.

A 14-member committee, named by UNMC Interim Chancellor H. Dele Davies, MD, is providing a comprehensive review of Dr. Klepser to examine whether he should be appointed to the deanship.

As part of that review, the committee will host interviews with Dr. Klepser throughout the day on Wednesday.

From noon to 1 p.m. that day, Dr. Klepser will lead a presentation that will be open to UNMC faculty, staff, students and other stakeholders.

The presentation will be held at the UNMC Center for Drug Discovery and Lozier Center for Pharmacy Sciences and Education building, located at 4040 Emile St. The session also will be available virtually via Zoom at this webinar link.

A faculty member of the college since 2005, Dr. Klepser has served as interim dean since January 2025. He is a professor in the UNMC Department of Pharmacy Practice and Science. He holds a PhD in pharmacy from the University of Iowa, an MBA in marketing and strategic management from the University of Minnesota and a BA in communications from the University of Michigan.

Karoly Mirnics, MD, PhD, dean and director of the UNMC Munroe-Meyer Institute, is serving as chairman of the review committee. As part of the review, the committee is soliciting external letters of evaluation. People interested in offering their feedback on Dr. Klepser’s consideration can provide their evaluation through Sunday, Nov. 9, via this form:

The committee will compile all feedback, prepare a final recommendation and report to Dr. Davies, who would decide whether to extend an offer. As with other senior-level positions, Dr. Klepser’s appointment would be subject to approval by the NU Board of Regents.

Focus groups also are underway to define and update the position description.
