UNMC will bring together first- and second-year students during Interprofessional Education Day events in February and March, offering participants a powerful learning experience.
Future health professionals will have the opportunity to step out of their individual programs and into collaborative, real-world teamwork.
The first event will be held Feb. 11 for first-year students.
A March 4 event will be for second-year students.
The sessions are signature pillars of UNMC’s commitment to preparing graduates who understand that excellent care requires not just clinical skill but also communication, trust, compassion, shared responsibility and team-based practice.
During IPE Day, students engage in facilitated discussions, collaborative problem-solving and interactive activities centered on shared clinical challenges. Through these exercises, students observe how the perspectives provided by nursing, medicine, pharmacy, public health, dentistry, PT/OT and more contribute essential pieces to a fuller understanding of patient-centered care.
Each IPE Day depends on thoughtful, curious and enthusiastic faculty facilitators. Nearly 80 faculty members volunteered last fall, and UNMC hopes to engage even more.
Faculty facilitators help guide dialogue, offer insight into professional roles and encourage respectful, team-based learning. Volunteers need not be content experts, only committed to supporting collaborative learning and reflection.
How to get involved
Faculty interested in volunteering as facilitators for either or both sessions should email Andrea Subitoni Antonio.
Participation strengthens UNMC’s interprofessional culture and directly contributes to its nationally recognized excellence in interprofessional education.
