The 2026 Updates in Rheumatology Conference, set for April 17, now is open for registration.

The annual symposium, which will be held at the University of Nebraska at Omaha’s Thompson Alumni Center, is annually hosted by the UNMC Division of Rheumatology & Immunology. It provides a focused, evidence-based update on the diagnosis and management of rheumatic diseases.

“This year, we brought together an exceptional group of speakers to explore the recent advances in rheumatoid arthritis and discuss what lies ahead for the field,” said Bryant England, MD, interim chief of the division. “Our internationally recognized experts will join us in celebrating Dr. James O’Dell’s 35 years of leadership as division chief and his extraordinary contributions to the treatment of rheumatoid arthritis.”

James O’Dell, MD created the Rheumatoid Arthritis Investigational Network more than two decades ago and has served as its only director. The event has grown since its inception, with almost 100 attendees expected this year.

Said Dr. O’Dell:

“I’m profoundly humbled that Dr. England has decided to recognize my time as division chief with this year’s symposium.

“Also, I’m honored that all four of this year’s speakers are truly the ‘who’s who’ of rheumatoid arthritis pathogenesis and treatment from around the world – and, even more importantly, wonderful friends.”

Those featured speakers are:

  • Stanley B. Cohen, MD, Presbyterian Hospital, Dallas
  • Gary S. Firestein, MD, UC San Diego Health, San Diego
  • Eric L. Matteson, MD, Mayo Clinic, Rochester, Minnesota
  • Iain B. McInnes, PhD, University of Glasgow, Glasgow, UK

Attendees will gain practical insights into recognizing systemic manifestations, applying current diagnostic strategies, and implementing effective treatment approaches. Innovative therapies and advances that are reshaping the field of rheumatology and improving patient outcomes also will be explored.

The UNO Thompson Alumni Center is located at 6705 Dodge St., Omaha. There also is a virtual attendance option.
