Accessing work apps on personal devices will change

A healthcare provider holds a personal device.

Over the next several weeks, users may notice small changes to how their personal devices connect to UNMC and Nebraska Medicine systems to access work-related applications. Users will experience very little disruption, if any, during this transition.

Why the change?

The current UNMC and Nebraska Medicine device management platform, Intelligent Hub, is being retired, so the organizations will be transitioning to Microsoft Intune Company Portal, which will provide the following enhancements:

  • Strengthens protection of patient, research and institutional data.
  • Reduces disruptions from aging tools.
  • Users’ core apps and data will continue to work.
  • Supports modern clinical, academic and research workflows.
  • Aligns with the same Microsoft ecosystem already used by UNMC and Nebraska Medicine for email, collaboration and identity.

What users may notice during the transition

Someone who is using their personal phone or tablet for work may see the following when opening work applications on that device:

  • Updated enrollment or sign‑in prompts.
  • Slight changes in how work apps are accessed now through Monday, July 27.
  • Some users also may see a login screen, as the examples show below, and/or occasional reauthentication or Duo prompts. These updates are intentional and help improve security consistency.

The transition to Intune Company Portal on personal, BYOD, devices will have to be completed by Monday, July 27. For now, there are no immediate steps for users to take. Next-step details and information will be shared in a future Nebraska Medicine NOW and UNMC Today article, along with information about in-person IT support to help with the transition.

For any questions regarding this upcoming transition, contact the IT Service Desk at 402-559-7700 or submit a request through the ServiceNow portal. Watch UNMC Today and Nebraska Medicine NOW for more updates.
