M.U.D. and Facilities Management and Planning teams continue repairs on a water main break that occurred late Friday (June 5) on the UNMC and Nebraska Medical Center campus in Omaha.
The break was reported shortly before 10 p.m. near the Central Utility Plant along Emile Street. The cause of the break remains under investigation. Crews located the source of the leak early Saturday morning and, by noon, had fixed the broken pipe.
The incident had minimal impact on surrounding buildings. As a precaution, teams temporarily shut down the fire suppression system in the Specialty Services Pavilion and activated established fire watch procedures until water was restored shortly after the repair. Teams also disconnected power to Shackleford Hall, but it has since been restored.
Public Safety immediately secured the area. Using the median lane, two-way traffic continues to move through the area while repairs continue. M.U.D plans to complete backfilling today (June 8) or Tuesday (June 9) and prep for paving by the City of Omaha. The work is expected to be done Friday.
