Hoxhunt training strengthens phishing awareness

UNMC employees may have noticed simulated phishing emails appearing in their inboxes from Hoxhunt, the organization’s simulated phishing and security awareness training platform.

These realistic simulations help employees recognize and report suspicious emails in a safe learning environment while building awareness of common cyber threats.

The Hoxhunt training – which attempts to “gamify” the experience – requires employees to enroll before they can participate.

A welcome email was distributed on July 6. To boost participation, UNMC and Nebraska Medicine Information Security will send an additional welcome email to employees who have not yet enrolled.

So far, about 20% of employees have enrolled.

Employees are encouraged to report suspicious messages, even when they are unsure. The feedback provided after each simulation helps reinforce key phishing indicators and strengthen employees’ ability to identify real-world threats.

By participating in the program, employees help support a stronger security culture across UNMC and contribute to ongoing efforts to protect institutional data, systems and sensitive information.
