Starting Monday, Aug. 24, a section of S. 44th Street, between Douglas Street and Farnam Street, will be reduced to one lane of southbound-only traffic for approximately four weeks. The left turn lane on Farnam Street, at the intersection with Douglas Street, will be closed for eastbound traffic during this period.
Drivers will be able to exit the North Tower Parking garage, also known as the Blue Parking Garage, onto S. 44th Street and head south onto Farnam Street.
The closure is to allow for continued construction of UNMC’s new seven-level parking garage at the former site of Don & Millie’s, on the corner of Farnam Street and Saddle Creek Road.
The garage is expected to be completed in spring 2028. It will serve patients and visitors for Project Health, UNMC and Nebraska Medicine’s future primary teaching hospital. A skybridge over Farnam Street eventually will connect the garage to Project Health.
