Dr. Narayama to speak at HPV prevention event hosted at UNMC College of Dentistry
UNMC’s Nagamani Narayana, DMD, will be one of the featured panelists when the UNMC College of Dentistry hosts “HPV: Learn. Prevent. Advocate” on Wednesday, Oct. 14, from noon to 1 p.m. in the Dixon Auditorium at the UNMC College of Dentistry in Lincoln.
The event, co-hosted by Bryan Health’s April Sampson Cancer Center in partnership with the UNL Nebraska Center for Virology, offers healthcare professionals, students, patient advocates, survivors and community members a look at oral cancer prevention and the role HPV vaccination and screening play in reducing risk.
Other speakers include Peter Angletti, PhD, of the UNL Nebraska Center for Virology; and oral cancer survivor Scott Wieskamp, who will share his personal advocacy perspective. Topics will include cancer awareness, HPV’s connection to cancer, prevention and early detection, and protecting yourself and loved ones.
UNMC Regularly Scheduled Series advances lifelong learning in healthcare
The UNMC Center for Continuing Education supports the professional development of health care providers through its Regularly Scheduled Series (RSS). These educational activities, including grand rounds, tumor boards, case conferences, and morbidity and mortality conferences, provide ongoing learning opportunities that help clinicians maintain and enhance their knowledge, competence and performance in patient care.
Participation in RSS activities offers health care professionals access to current clinical information, emerging research, and interdisciplinary discussions led by expert faculty and practitioners. The sessions are typically conducted on a recurring basis, such as weekly, monthly or quarterly, creating a continuous learning environment that promotes evidence-based practice and quality improvement.
In addition to supporting professional growth, accredited RSS activities allow participants to earn AMA PRA Category 1 Credit™, an important component of continuing medical education requirements. These activities are primarily planned and presented by UNMC and Nebraska Medicine professional staff, ensuring topics are relevant to clinicians’ needs and aligned with institutional priorities for patient care and safety.
UNMC, Nebraska Medicine, Omaha Public Library team for health screening event
The UNMC College of Nursing, Nebraska Medicine and the Omaha Public Library will partner to bring health screenings to the public this month.
The Sept. 29 event is from 2 to 4 p.m. at the Charles B. Washington Branch of the Omaha Public Library, 2868 Ames Ave.
Guests will have access to blood pressure checks, health and nutrition education, colon cancer screening, integrated community health services and health kits. All services are available on a first-come, first-served basis.
