To mark the 10th anniversary of the partnership between UNMC and the Universidad Anahuac, Veracruz, Mexico, a 10-person delegation recently visited campus, including the chancellor of UAV, Luis Linares Romero, PhD.
The Sept. 17-18 visit included a meeting with UNMC Chancellor H. Dele Davies, MD, as well as meetings with and tours led by other UNMC leaders, such as Jane Meza, PhD, vice chancellor for academic affairs, and Ken Bayles, PhD, vice chancellor for research. Dr. Linares and his team discussed future academic and research collaboration opportunities.
“This has been a very successful agreement,” Dr. Linares said. “It has created a real community, a sense of collaboration, and we are happy that this collaboration is continuing.
“We have ongoing projects with really successful results,” he said. And of course, these two days will be an excellent opportunity to explore new projects for upcoming years.”
Dr. Meza said the partnership has evolved in the past 10 years.
“It’s a collaboration around an educational program and public health that has evolved into opportunities for Spanish-language training for our learners here and opportunity to have some immersive Spanish language opportunities in Mexico at Anahuac University,” Dr. Meza said. “This has been a great example of a mutually beneficial partnership.”
Part of the focus of the anniversary visit was to explore collaborative research opportunities.
“We have a great opportunity to expand our research partnership at multiple levels with members of the Anahuac University faculty,” Dr. Bayles said. This includes collaborations in clinical and basic science research, but also through student exchanges that enhance the educational experiences for students from both campuses.”
UNMC Chancellor H. Dele Davies, MD, also praised the collaboration.
“It was an honor to host Dr. Linares and his team at UNMC,” Dr. Davies said. “This is a partnership that has continued to flourish every year, and we are excited to be exploring other avenues of collaboration as we move into the second decade of this relationship.”
Dr. Linares also shared a message for UNMC leadership, faculty, staff and students.
“We are very grateful to work with the UNMC community,” Dr. Linares said. “We look forward to continuing working with you, since we are very aware of the high quality of professionals you have here.”
