Abbey Fingeret, MD, PhD, has been named assistant dean for faculty development in the UNMC College of Medicine, effective Nov. 9.
Dr. Fingeret, who in 2026 was named Varner Educator Laureate and a recipient of the Interprofessional Academy of Educators’ Distinguished Educator Award, is an associate professor in the UNMC Division of Surgical Oncology and section chief for endocrine surgery.
Dr. Fingeret said she was honored to step into the new role and support faculty across the college at every stage of their careers.
“Through years of coaching, mentoring and leadership development work at UNMC, I’ve seen what faculty can do when they have clear expectations, real mentorship, and room to build on their own strengths,” she said. “I look forward to working with faculty, department leaders, and colleagues across campus to strengthen onboarding, promotion support, leadership development, and well-being so that every faculty member can thrive.”
“Dr. Fingeret brings extensive experience in medical education and faculty development within the UNMC College of Medicine, along with a deep commitment to supporting faculty success across basic science and clinical departments,” said Nada Fadul, MD, senior associate dean for faculty affairs. “I look forward to her contributions and innovative leadership as she helps advance our faculty development efforts.”
Dr. Fingeret succeeds Suzanne Haney, MD, who while in the role established the college’s faculty onboarding program, an important resource for welcoming and supporting new faculty, Dr. Fadul said. She expressed her gratitude to Dr. Haney for her work in the role.
Congratulations, Dr. Fingeret.
Congrats, well deserved!!
