Dr. McVea among YWCA’s 2004 Women of Vision
Kristine McVea, M.D., has dedicated her work as a physician and public health educator to help those most underserved by health care in America – the uninsured, the working poor, the homeless, minorities and immigrants — many of whom don’t speak English.Dr. McVea, associate professor in UNMC’s Department of Family Medicine, will be honored by the YWCA Omaha today as one of 10 Women of Vision.

Architect selected for UNMC Center for Health Science Education
The University of Nebraska Board of Regents on Saturday approved HDR Architecture Inc. of Omaha and RDG Planning and Design Architects of Des Moines to provide design services for the construction of the Center of Health Science Education at UNMC. The regents had approved the center’s program statement at their December meeting.

June 11 deemed day of mourning; UNMC offices will be closed
UNMC Chancellor Harold M. Maurer, M.D., has announced that UNMC offices will be closed on Friday, June 11, in observance of a national day of mourning for former President Ronald Reagan. Friday will be considered a day of (paid) administrative leave for all leave-eligible employees.

Dr. Armitage joins international anemia research effort
James Armitage, M.D., Joe Shapiro professor of medicine and UNMC oncologist, has joined the new Roche Foundation for Anemia Research (RoFAR), a charitable organization to encourage innovative research in anemia. Researchers involved in areas associated with the study of anemia are invited to apply to RoFAR for funding.
