Surinder Batra, Ph.D., professor and chairman of biochemistry and molecular biology, will deliver the keynote address at the University of Missouri Health System’s Health Science Research Day on Nov. 14 and the 75th Annual Congress of the Japan Surgical Association on Nov. 22. Dr. Batra was named UNMC’s seventh Scientist Laureate in 2012.

John Calvin Davis III, M.D., an internal medicine faculty member at UNMC from 1961-1997, died Oct. 29 in Estes Park, Colo., following a prolonged illness related to heart failure. He was 82.

UNMC study seeks to improve outcomes for diffuse large B-cell lymphoma
UNMC researchers have discovered that patients with diffuse large B-cell lymphoma don’t respond well to the standard drug therapy used to treat this type of cancer if they have high levels of a gene called STAT3.
The findings are published in the November issue of the Journal of Clinical Oncology, the medical journal of the American Society for Clinical Oncology.
