Proposed cloning bill draws crowd
Seventh-grader Megan Berens has had diabetes for seven years. On Wednesday, the 13-year-old told Judiciary Committee members she hopes for a cure so she can “live without fear.” Berens was among the youngest to testify in opposition to LB 700, a bill that would ban reproductive and therapeutic cloning.

‘Walk and Roll for Disabilities’ raises record $30,000
More than 450 registered participants and more than $30,000 raised. Both numbers were records realized at the 3rd annual Munroe-Meyer Institute and the C. Louis Meyer Foundation “Walk & Roll for Disabilities,” held in February at the Westroads Mall.

This is holds true for UNMC’s Warren Sanger, Ph.D., and his son, Travis Sanger, M.D. The only difference between the Sangers and many other father-son fishing tandems is the Sangers are really, really good at fishing.

American Indian dancers offer lunchtime culture break
The Durham Outpatient Center West Atrium served as a cultural crossing point on Tuesday during a demonstration of traditional Native American Indian dances. During a noontime performance, members of the American Indian Dance Theater performed several routines, including one that involved about 20 members of the audience participating in a dance resembling a conga line.

Proposed cloning bill would ban therapeutic cloning
State lawmakers today will hear testimony on LB 700, a bill that purports to ban the cloning of humans. While LB 700 does, in fact, ban human cloning, also known as reproductive cloning, it also bans a technique known as somatic cell nuclear transfer (SCNT), or “therapeutic cloning.”
