Study looks at wheat allergies in infants

A study released in this month’s journal Pediatrics issues a strong challenge to the notion that babies should be exclusively breastfed, and not given any solid foods, during the first six months of life. Jill Poole, M.D., assistant professor in the pulmonary, critical care, sleep and allergy section of the department of internal medicine at UNMC, is lead author of the study.

Smoking cessation program to use innovative tool

It’s slightly bigger than a pack of cigarettes, but today’s hand-held computers still fit inside a shirt pocket. Lynne Buchanan, Ph.D., is counting on that accessibility. An associate professor in the UNMC College of Nursing, Dr. Buchanan is asking smokers to reach for the specially designed Personal Digital Assistant to help distract and delay their urge to smoke.

Bibliographic management program available free

RefWorks, a bibliographic management program similar to EndNote and Reference Manager, is now available to all UNMC-affiliated faculty, staff and students without charge. A RefWorks-affiliated trainer will be on campus June 13 to demonstrate features of the program.
