Online chat deals with Medicare Prescription Drug Discount Card
Specific questions about the Medicare approved prescription drug discount card will be answered this month during two live “chats” on Omaha.com. The chats will last approximately one hour and are scheduled to start at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, July 27 and 7 p.m. on Thursday, July 29 on Omaha.com. UNMC is one of the sponsors of the event.

UNMC nurse practitioner awarded national fellowship honors
Kathryn Fiandt, D.N.Sc., associate professor in the UNMC College of Nursing, has been selected as a fellow in the American Academy of Nurse Practitioners and has received a Robert Wood Johnson Executive Nurse Fellowship. She is being recognized for the expertise and leadership she has exhibited throughout her 28-year career as a nurse practitioner.

Nutritional genomics research gets boost
A $4.7 million grant funded by the National Science Foundation EPSCoR (Experimental Program to Stimulate Competitive Research) will propel UNMC’s research into a new field, nutritional genomics, and may lead to a better understanding of diet and disease.

Morehead gift moves College of Nursing forward
Family and friends remember Falls City, Neb., native Kenneth Morehead as a man who lived life like a jet pilot – – with certainty and speed. Now Morehead’s legacy also will be recognized by his significant contribution to advancing the science of caring for people. During his life and more recently through his estate, Morehead contributed a total of $1.75 million to the University of Nebraska Foundation to benefit the UNMC College of Nursing. The combination of gifts, all unrestricted, is the largest of its kind in the college’s history.
