2005 Kiewit, Scott Entrepreneurial awards announced

HKS Medical Information Systems is the 2005 winner of the Walter Scott Entrepreneurial Business Award, University of Nebraska President James B. Milliken announced Tuesday. Byers “Bud” Shaw Jr., M.D., professor and chairman of UNMC’s Department of Surgery, founded HKS Medical Information Systems in 1993 with Hubert Hickman and Paul Kenyon. The company develops, sells and implements software for hospitals to track solid organ transplant data. A four-student team from the University of Nebraska at Kearney won the Peter Kiewit Student Entrepreneurial Award.

Inappropriate use of computer resources leads to arrest

On Tuesday, a workstation in the McGoogan Library of Medicine computing cluster was being used to view objectionable material, which is prohibited by federal law. Following established procedures, UNMC Campus Security contacted the Omaha Police Department and an arrest was made. The individual arrested was not affiliated with UNMC.

Edward V. Since joining UNMC, Pierre Fayad, M.D., has built a new department and recruited neurology specialists. He has built programs that greatly enhanced the capabilities of UNMC and its hospital partner, The Nebraska Medical Center, to help patients suffering from strokes, seizures, muscle and nerve disorders, brain cancer and degenerative disorders of the brain such as Alzheimer’s, Parkinson’s and dementia.
