A HIPAA message on phishing — don’t get snagged

HIPAA, the “Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act of 1996,” provides federal protection of patient health information. This HIPAA-related message is part of UNMC’s continued effort to educate employees. Today’s HIPAA message addresses phishing, a high-tech scam that uses spam or pop-up messages to deceive you into disclosing confidential information.

Regents to consider Research Center of Excellence II

A second research tower at UNMC would improve the health and biosecurity of Nebraskans by providing additional infrastructure for biomedical research, biosecurity preparedness and clinical laboratory service. The Research Center of Excellence II would be constructed adjacent to the Durham Research Center, which opened last year. The University of Nebraska Board of Regents will consider a program statement for the RCE II at its meeting Friday.

Orthodontic program celebrates 50th anniversary

Nearly 100 people recently celebrated the 50th anniversary of the UNMC College of Dentistry Orthodontic Program. The graduate program, one of nearly 70 orthodontic programs in North America, was established at a time when most dental schools were only teaching orthodontia at a fundamental level.

The U.S. National Commission on Libraries and Information Science (NCLIS) has announced that UNMC’s McGoogan Library of Medicine has been selected to receive the 2004 NCLIS Blue Ribbon Consumer Health Information Recognition Award for Libraries for Nebraska. This prestigious award will be presented today at 3:30 p.m., during a reception at the McGoogan Library of Medicine.
