Virtual Incision mini-robots conduct first known human surgery

Dmitry Oleynikov, M.D., a UNMC professor of surgery, operates a surgical robot as in the background Shane Farritor, Ph.D., a UNL engineering professor, adjusts the camera on the surgical subject in this 2015 photo illustration. The two developed the robot for minimally invasive surgeries. Their startup company, Virtual Incision, announced March 1 the first use of its miniaturized robot in human surgery.

New HSRA PhD Emphasis in Academic Family Medicine Approved

A new emphasis in Family Medicine has been approved. The emphasis is designed to train leaders in family medicine and health care administrators to aid with the development of the primary care system in China.

Former UNMC anesthesiology chair, John Tinker, M.D., dies at age 74

John Tinker, M.D., professor and chair of the University of Nebraska Medical Center Department of Anesthesiology from 1997-2008, died Feb. 17 at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics in Iowa City.
